Bonus Information

NOPD and its partner The New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation (NOPJF) sponsor a number of bonus programs to reward highly qualified officers and to assist the New Orleans Police Department with its efforts to recruit and hire the best possible candidates for the department.

$5,000 Signing Bonus

The NOPJF makes this bonus available to “lateral transfers” — police officers from another parish or state who are already trained and state certified (POST Certified, if you are from Louisiana). The bonus is paid to officers following training and assignment — $2,500 upon assignment to an NOPD district or division, $2,500 upon successful completion of the standard probationary period.

College Attendance Bonus and Tuition Support

NOPD now pays an annual salary bonus to officers with a college education from accredited colleges and universities as follows:

  • $1,000 for an Associate’s Degree
  • $2,000 for a Bachelor’s Degree
  • $3,000 for a Graduate Degree

NOPD Officers are encouraged to continue their education. College attendance is partially subsidized by the NOPJF through a college tuition assistance program.

Specialized Position Incentives

Highly qualified NOPD officers assigned to certain units within NOPD are given special pay incentives on an annual basis. Those incentives are as follows:

  • $1,500 Field Training Officer
  • $1,500 Special Operations Division (SOD—Tactical)
  • $1,500 Marine Unit (Divers)
  • $1,500 K-9 (Handlers)
  • $1,500 Mounted (Horse)
  • $1,500 Traffic (Motorcycle)
